Dubrovnik was our main stopover for our Croatian wine adventure. Last April after arriving in Barcelona off we went to Dubrovnik, Croatia. We came to Croatia to explore wine country and enjoy some local cuisine. Located in Southern Dalmatia, on the stunning Adriatic Coast, Dubrovnik is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, impressive city walls and historic Old Town. Besides being a UNESCO World Heritage site Old Town is also known for its vibrant cultural scene. I so loved that we chose to begin and end our travels in Dubrovnik to discover some of its magic charms.
After our flight from Barcelona to Dubrovnik, we took a taxi to our hotel in pedestrian friendly Old Town. We decided to stay in the city's historic center to have easy access to historic sights, restaurants and cafes.
Welcome to Dubrovnik
Our first evening we went to Lucin Kantun for dinner. During dinner we gave the local wines (Plavac Mali and Pošip) a try.
During our Pelješac Peninsula wine adventure we visited charming family-owned vineyards at Matuško Winery, Miloš Winery, Grgic Winery, and Saints Hills Winery. The day we returned from Pelješac Peninsula wine travels we stopped at Rizman Winery in the Kormarna wine region.
Return to Dubrovnik
Upon our return to Dubrovnik we stayed two more nights. The first evening we visited a restaurant across our hotel. Having missed out on having oysters earlier, during our stop in Ston; so once we were back in Dubrovnik John wanted to try some Ston oysters. Also, by that time we have explored a number Pošip wines. John chose to pair Pošip with Ston oysters.
Returning to Dubrovnik for the remaining days we enjoyed walking around Old Town. This included exploring the waterfront area.
There at the edge old port of Dubrovnik is Fort St. John where you can visit the Dubrovnik Aquarium and the Maritime Museum. Of course you can also walk the historic city wall. Many recommend buying a day pass that allows you to walk the city wall and visit sites, such as the aquarium and museum.
After visiting the waterfront we headed down some Old Town side streets to explore.

Of course a number of Dubrovnik cats were encountered during our walk abouts.
Throughout Old Town there are plenty of dining spots.

For lunch one day we ordered chicken and chips, and a veggie burger.
We made sure we dropped by a vegetarian restaurant.
We loved hanging out in Dubrovnik's Old Town during our Croatian wine country travels. During our three days of explorations we discovered on our own some of Dubrovnik's magic charms. Of course there is plenty of typical touristic things to do in Dubrovnik's Old Town. We loved our stay in the city's historic center at the Bota Palace, a charming boutique hotel. Special thanks to Croatian Premium Wine Imports for graciously providing advice on my wine adventure. I look forward to more Croatian vine-filled explorations. I invite you to join me in our wine travels at Wine Travels with Dr. Sharon, and at Spaswinefood on Bluesky and Facebook.
