Thanks for the memories Sighișoara, Transylvania

Indeed Romania's Sighișoara (GermanSchäßburgHungarianSegesvár) is a special place. Put it on your short list!  What a wonderful way to end our travels in Transylvania Wine Country it was!  Sighișoara, in the historic region of Transylvania, is a popular tourist destination with a well-preserved walled old town. After a vine-filled day, discovering the history of the wine-trade town, Mediaș we traveled onto Casa Wagner in Sighișoara.

Welcome to Sighișoara

Who would not want to stay in Sighișoara's old cityThe city's historic center, built by Saxon settlers in the 12th century, is now an inhabited medieval fortress. The Hungarian king begged Saxons to move here in order to help defend his borders. German craftsmen and artisans took him up on theoffer, and the result was a fairy-tale-like fortified cityIn 1999 Sighișoara was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its 850-year-old testament to the history and culture of the Transylvanian Saxons

After a long day exploring I delighted in taking in the late evening light, and catching a glimpse of the patio below my hotel window.

Yes, again our rooms were on the top floor. After a long walk up, at least three flights of stairs, or more, the view was well worth it.

Next Morning, it was great waking up in Sighișoara’s old city. I could not resist taking another look at the patio below area our window. Down the flights of stairs we went to start the day.

Before leaving town we (Carol and I) did an early morning tour of the Old Town of Sighișoara. It has numerous historical buildings, such as Church on the Hill, and more.

From the plaza we headed down a cobbled stone street towards a church.

In the early morning light everything looked amazing to me.

As we looked around we saw a covered walkway below the church.

For sure we just had to take that walkway to checkout more views.

We would leave Transylvania with images of historical towns like, Sighișoara etched in our memories forever. It is no wonder this whole place is a UNESCO World Heritage site. With cobbled streets, colorful buildings, and a pedestrian-friendly Old Town, it is easy to fall in love with Sighișoara. For sure Transylvania Wine Country will capture your heart.

Thanks for the Memories Transylvania

Indeed Sighișoara is a special place. Put it on your short list!  What a wonderful introduction to Transylvania Wine Country it was! My #winelover traveling buddies, from Canada, Europe and United States, would spend one more day in this awesome city, and then go onto the Dealu Mare Wine Region. In my case however, I was off to Cluj to travel onwards. I left with the need to return soon. Wine travelers might want to use Cluj, as a starting point to explore Transylvania wine country. The Transylvanian towns (Alba luliaMediaș, and Sighișoara) that I visited would be most ideal to spend at least 2-3 days as a wine traveler. I dream of long walks, followed by relaxing lunches and dinners in charming settings, with Transylvania wine of course! My preference would be spring or fall, as Sighișoara in particular, is quite popular in the tourist season.
