Living the Tokaj dream in Hungarian wine country: Lunch with Chateau Dereszla wines

Our introduction to Tokaj's Chateau Dereszla wines was over lunch at Dereszla BistroChâteau Dereszla, founded in the 15th century, like other Tokaj wineries was nationalized during the communist period. This property was privatized in 1991. In 2000 the D’Aulan family from France bought the estate. They strongly believed that a winery in this historical region was well worth being revived again. It was a great privilege for me to be introduced to Chateau Dereszla wines was over lunch at Dereszla Bistro.

Dereszla Bistro is the village of Bodrogkeresztúr. Dereszla Bistro is one of top restaurants that elevates the Tokaj food experience to a new level. Built on the former site of an old distillery, and just across the street from Dereszla’s winery building and their wine shop. It sets on staggered terraces, overlooking River Bodrog

The Dereszla Winery is located in the Tokaj Wine Region, which takes its name from the town of Tokaj. Established in 1737 it was the first wine region in the world to create an official vineyard classification. After attending the 2nd FICB (Federation International of Wine Brotherhoods) Wine Tasting and Rating Challenge's main program in Budapest, off we went to Tokaj for extension program, from May 26-May 28, 2024. Tokaj's Furmint wines are produced in a variety of styles, range from bone dry to extremely sweetIt has taken me sometime to develop an understanding of Tokaj's Furmint wines.  Ever since my very first introduction to Tokaj wines, I have strived to learn more; so when I visited Tokaj last May it was, for me, a dream come true. I was so excited to visit the Tokaj wine region.
